Best Natural Springs in Samoa

Samoa is a beautiful place to be, but it doesn’t have hot springs, jut incredibly gorgeous cold springs.

Activities around Samoa’s springs, such as snorkeling, kayaking, and guided cultural tours, provide a well-rounded and memorable vacation.

Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa

Located on the Southern Coast of Upolu in the village of Maninoa, Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa is set amongst 32 acres of lush tropical gardens overlooking the stunning turquoise lagoon. Now unless we are counting the spa, this is mostly a cold spring.

The resort boasts both Samoan traditional architecture and contemporary luxury.

Onsite, you will find a spa, a sauna, tennis courts, a 9-hole resort golf course, gift shops, swimming pool, as well as two restaurants and two bars. A short causeway leads to the overwater Ava I Toga restaurant and bar which sits above a freshwater spring that bubbles up from below in the middle of the lagoon – it is literally one of the coolest places to swim at the resort.

Savaii Island

Savaii is the biggest island of tropical Samoa but still a tiny dot on the map in the South Pacific.

At the North-Eastern part of Savaii there are lava fields and hot pools, but only because the weather is so hot! It is beautiful to see and what we really loved was sleeping by the ocean, the sunsets, and outdoor showers at Savaii Lagoon Resort.

One of the other highlights of Savaii are the Alofaaga Blowholes! Depending on the conditions of the ocean, tides and wind, you can see a massive water fountain coming out of the lava rocks.

Piula Cave Pool

Samoa is famous for its cave pools, and Piula is one of the most popular. Again these are some beautiful cold springs, but since it’s hot in Samoa you’ll want to cool down.

Located in the Piula Methodist Theological College, east of Apia, this freshwater cave pool is not only beautiful, but it’s the perfect set up to while away a lazy sunny day – particularly if you have small children in tow.

Sua Ocean Trench

Another cool springs, but something you don’t want to miss! Erosion of the lava fields around Lotofaga left the area pocketed with tide pools and a series of blowholes, the largest of which is To Sua (whose name translates to “big hole”).

Overlooking the ocean is a small beach known as Fagaoneone meaning white sand, while opposite you can find a lava field with blowholes, mini pools and good fishing spots. If you're visiting during mid-September to November you may even be lucky enough to see a few whales coasting by.

Stay nearby at Saletoga Sands Resort & Spa with free breakfast and wonderful sea views. I love that you get free access to snorkeling equipment and standup paddle boards.

Are you traveling in other parts of Asia? Take a look at more hot springs in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, India, Japan, Philippines, and Vietnam.
