Hot Springs in Switzerland To Enjoy In The Snow

Switzerland is the perfect place for spas and hot springs - I love contrast of hot water and snow covered mountains. What I find funny is that even the spas themselves are an extreme white, blending into the snowy background.

Leukerbad Therme

Leukerbad, the largest thermal and wellness resort in the Alps, is a historic spa town where over 3.9 million liters of thermal water, up to 51∘C at the source, gush into 30 different pools daily.

The Leukerbad Therme is the resort's family-friendly option. The water is calcium-sulfate-rich and has been used for centuries to treat rheumatological and neurological ailments.

Family tickets are available, and it’s just a few more francs for a day ticket rather than three hours. We found this well worth it just not to have to watch the time. It’s also free for children under eight to go in the pools.

Changing and lockers are made easy for families. With spacious changing cubicles and your ticket serves as your locker ticket too, meaning you don’t have to scrabble for change.

  • Water Quality: ⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Known for its rich mineral composition, minor sulfur scent due to minerals.)

Walliser Alpentherme & Spa

Also in Leukerbad, the Walliser Alpentherme spa offers a more tranquil, adult-focused experience than the Leukerbad Therme. It features indoor and outdoor thermal pools, a unique Roman-Irish bath, and the largest sauna village in the Alps. The mountain backdrop is spectacular.

The Walliser Alpentherme & Spa Leukerbad (open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) features two mineral-rich indoor thermal pools with temperature that ranges from 34°to 40°C.

Additionally, there's a 300m² thermal bath with a hot tub that awaits you outdoors with a wide variety of underwater attractions while offering you a scenic view of the majestic Alps as the water calms your spirit and softens your body.

Tamina Therme

Beautiful white spa

Bad Ragaz is famous for the 36.5∘C water of the Tamina Gorge, discovered in 1242. This small Swiss town is only a short hour train from the hustle and bustle of Zurich and has been a spa destination for hundreds of years dating back to Medieval Europe.

Nearby stay at Palais Bad Ragaz if you want to feel like royalty. It’s located right in the same complex as the Tamina Therme so the location is perfect. They describe it as a boutique hotel, but when I walked in, it was more of a palace.

The Tamina Therme is a contemporary architectural masterpiece that uses this healing thermal water. The spa focuses on purity and minimalist design, offering a deeply relaxing experience without the overt family focus of some others.

Dream away in the 34° C outdoor pool under the open sky with a view of the Grisons mountain panorama. Boost your immune system with an alternating bath in the hot and cold water pools. The difference in temperature between the 39° C warm and 17° C cool pools strengthens the skin tissue, stimulates the circulation and has a beneficial effect on your blood flow and metabolism.

To get to the outside pools, you can walk out the door, or simply swim through a little opening that connects the inner pool to the outer one. On two sides of the pool, there was a row of curved beds built right into the water shoot – with massaging jet streams.

  • Water Quality: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Pure, body-temperature spring water from the Tamina Gorge, almost crystal clear and odorless.)

  • Ease of Access: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Located in a major spa town with excellent public transport links and dedicated parking.)

  • Health Benefits: ⋆⋆⋆⋆ (A hypotonic, mineral-light water known for relaxation and pain relief.)

  • Nearby Amenities: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Part of the luxurious Grand Resort Bad Ragaz complex, with fine dining, medical treatments, and lodging.)

Les Bains de Lavey

Home to the hottest thermal spring in Switzerland, Les Bains de Lavey's water emerges from 600 meters below ground at a scorching 65∘C before being cooled to a comfortable bathing temperature. In 1831, a fisherman discovered this hot spring on the banks of the Rhône by chance.

You can easily stay at the hotel onsite with two restaurants and facial and body wrap treatments.

Lavey water belongs to the sodium chloride sulphate class, and is particularly rich in sulphur, calcium, lithium, potassium and magnesium. The unique source is rich in sulfur and minerals, making it highly therapeutic for skin and joint issues.

Even better this spa just reopened after renovations in July 2025. Enjoy the scenaery at the foot of the Dents du Midi and the Dents de Morcles. You can also look at their webcam to see what the weather is like.

Enjoy 1,600 m² of indoor and outdoor pools, Nordic saunas, Oriental hammams, relaxation areas, Aufguss rituals and a wellness boutique.

  • Water Quality: ⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Pure and rich in minerals, with a slight sulfurous scent indicating its potency.)

  • Ease of Access: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ (Very easy access near the A9 motorway, situated in the valley floor.)

  • Ability to be Alone: ⋆⋆⋆ (Large complex with high visitor numbers, but sufficient space in the various indoor/outdoor pools and relaxation areas.)

  • Health Benefits: ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ (High sulfur and mineral content, known for dermatological and anti-inflammatory properties.)

7132 Therme

Designed by acclaimed architect Peter Zumthor, the 7132 Therme is a pilgrimage site for architecture and spa lovers. Built from 60,000 slabs of local Vals quartzite, it is an immersive, sensory experience. The high-quality water emerges from the St. Peter Spring.

Surrounded by the serenity of the Swiss Alps and coated in 60,000 slabs of modern and majestic Vals quartzite, the 7132 Therme of Vals, Switzerland, is nothing short of a magical getaway. Here, travelers are intrigued by immaculate architecture while sauntering through seven hot and cold spring bath options.

The 7132 is well-known for its iconic thermal baths. The treatment rooms are aligned with 60,000 slabs of Vals quartzite, creating an area bursting with contemporary aesthetics and architectural grandness. But the magnificent craftsmanship and modern flare of Peter Zumthor aren’t the only draws to the exemplary 7132. It’s the thermal baths within these finely crafted walls.

You’ll be met with multiple exciting hot spring pools and baths to choose from, all of which are filled by the highly mineralized waters of the local St. Peter springs.

Mineralbad & Spa Rigi Kaltbad

Perched high on Mount Rigi, the Mineralbad and Spa, designed by Mario Botta, offers spectacular panoramic views over Lake Lucerne and the Alps. Its location alone makes it one of the most scenic bathing experiences in Switzerland. The water comes from the 'Drei Schwestern' (Three Sisters) spring.

lRigi Kaltbad Swiss Quality Hotel offers modern rooms with views of the surrounding Alpine landscape and free entrance to the mineral bath and spa area on site. The property has 3 restaurants that serve regional and international cuisine. Bogn Engiadina

Scuol is known for its mineral water drinking fountains across the village, and the Bogn Engiadina complex combines thermal bathing with an extensive Roman-Irish ritual and a sauna landscape.

Stay nearby at the dog-friendly Chesa Stuva Colani with free breakfast, onsite skiing, and hot tubs.

The thing I haven’t tried before is the Roman-Irish bathhouse which combines the health benefits of Roman bathing culture with classic Irish bathing traditions. The entire Roman-Irish bathhouse is a clothing-free zone and is designed for people aged 18 years and older.

Please bring your own swimsuit or towel. You will receive a toga (towel) and slippers at the entrance of the Roman-Irish bathhouse.

The water here is carbonated and rich in hydrogen carbonate, prized for its drinking cures. It includes healing levels of magnesium, iron, calcium, and chloride. If you want to experience more go out in town and take a 6km hike to test out over 20 springs in the springs trail.

They also offer some amazing skin treatments. The honey massage is not a relaxation massage – instead, it is used to regenerate the body and soul. The sticky honey makes it possible to deeply cleanse the connective tissue. The massage stimulates blood flow and opens the skin’s pores, so that the skin can breathe more freely.

As a founding member of the Wheelchair Access Switzerland Association, the region is well equipped to accommodate special needs and offer accessible activities and day trip destinations and the spa offers wheelchair access.
