4 Hot Springs To Visit While In Dubai

Dubai is a city famously sculpted from the imagination—a glittering landscape of record-breaking skyscrapers, man-made islands, and ultra-luxury indoor spas that offer everything from 24-karat gold facials to cryotherapy.

While the city of Dubai is a desert marvel, the surrounding geography—specifically the rugged Hajar Mountains and the tectonic activity of the Arabian Plate—gifts the region with several natural geothermal springs.

The UAE is one of the hottest places on Earth during the summer months (June to September). Soaking in 40°C water when the air temperature is 45°C is not a relaxing experience—it’s a recipe for heatstroke. The ideal time to visit these springs is from November to March, when the desert air is cool and crisp.

The UAE and Oman are conservative cultures. In public hot springs like Green Mubazzarah or Ain Al Madhab, it is essential to observe local dress codes.

  • Men: Should wear modest swim shorts (avoid speedos).

  • Women: Should check specific pool rules. In public mixed areas (like the foot-soaking streams), it is respectful to keep shoulders and knees covered. In the gender-segregated indoor pools, standard swimwear is typically fine.

Geothermal water draws moisture out of your skin, and the dry desert air does the rest. Always carry twice as much water as you think you’ll need.

If you visit the more natural springs like Ain Al Thawarah, don't be alarmed by small fish. They are harmless "Doctor Fish" (Garra rufa) and are a sign of a very healthy, clean ecosystem.

1. Khatt Springs

Note: this spa is now closed

Located approximately an hour and fifteen minutes north of Dubai, Khatt Springs is arguably the most famous geothermal destination in the United Arab Emirates. Nestled at the foot of the Hajar Mountains, these springs rise from nearly 90 feet underground.

The water at Khatt is renowned for its high sulfur content and maintains a consistent temperature of around 40°C (104°F). The facility has been developed into a resort-style environment, which includes private pools and treatment rooms.

The high mineral concentration—specifically the sulfur and sodium—is frequently sought after by those suffering from skin ailments, rheumatism, and muscular tension. The surrounding area is also rich in archaeological history, with nearly 50 heritage sites nearby, allowing you to combine a therapeutic soak with a journey through the UAE's ancient past.

Water Quality: 4 stars – Minor sulfur smell (typical of volcanic waters) but generally very clean and well-maintained.

Ease of Access: 5 stars – Easily accessible via the E11 or E611 highways with clear signage and paved parking.

Ability to be Alone: 2 stars – Due to its popularity with residents and tourists, the public areas can get quite busy. Booking a private room is recommended for solitude.

Water Temperature: 4 stars – Comfortably hot, though there is little variation in the public pools.

Health Benefits: 5 stars – One of the highest sulfur concentrations in the region, offering legitimate therapeutic value.

Nearby Amenities: 4 stars – The on-site resort provides dining and lodging, though the options are somewhat limited compared to Dubai’s city center.

2. Green Mubazzarah

Roughly a two-hour drive from Dubai leads you to the "Garden City" of Al Ain. At the base of the majestic Jebel Hafeet mountain lies Green Mubazzarah, a sprawling park where natural hot springs have been channeled into man-made streams and pools.

Stay nearby at the Alberni Jabal Hafeet Hotel Al Ain with spa facilities, a fitness center, sun terrace, and a year-round outdoor swimming pool.

The experience here is more "community-focused" than "spa-focused." You will see families picnicking on the lush grass as the warm, mineral-rich water flows through stone-lined channels.

There are separate indoor bathing facilities for men and women where you can fully submerge in the hot geothermal water. The water is naturally heated and emerges quite hot, though it cools significantly as it flows through the outdoor streams, making it a favorite for children to splash in while adults soak their feet. I love the part where I can just put my feet in the water anytime.

Water Quality: 3 stars – Noticeable sediment in the outdoor channels due to the natural park environment, but the indoor pools are clean.

Ease of Access: 5 stars – A very straightforward drive from Dubai; the park is a major landmark in Al Ain.

Ability to be Alone: 1 star – This is a major local attraction. On weekends, it is bustling with activity and can be quite noisy.

Water Temperature: 3 stars – The indoor pools can be very hot; the outdoor streams vary wildly depending on the distance from the source.

Health Benefits: 3 stars – Moderate mineral content, primarily used for general relaxation and family fun.

Nearby Amenities: 5 stars – Chalets are available for overnight stays, and the park is filled with food stalls, cafes, and even a miniature train.

3. Ain Al Madhab Sulphur Springs

On the eastern coast of the UAE, nestled in the shadow of the Hajar Mountains near the Fujairah Fort, lies the Ain Al Madhab Springs. These springs are part of a larger heritage park and offer a distinct "mountain-meets-sea" atmosphere.

The water here is rich in sulfur, which gives it a characteristic odor but also provides the therapeutic benefits that aficionados crave.

The springs are channeled into two separate swimming pool areas—one for men and one for women. Unlike the resort atmosphere of Khatt, Ain Al Madhab feels more like a local community center. The park itself is beautiful, featuring ruins of old buildings and an outdoor theater, making it a culturally enriching experience.

Park is very clean and tidy. Toilets are well maintained and very clean.

Although the football is not allowed, the children can play other games like cricket. There are lots of swings and see saws.

I couldn’t avoid going to the beach. Palace Beach Resort Fujairah is a beautiful resort on the beach with a a private beach area and beachfront access, year-round outdoor swimming pool, sun terrace, and lush gardens.

Water Quality: 3 stars – The sulfur smell is prominent, and the pools are older, which may show some wear.

Ease of Access: 4 stars – A scenic 90-minute drive from Dubai through the mountains, though the park entrance can be slightly confusing for first-timers.

Ability to be Alone: 3 stars – Usually quieter than Green Mubazzarah, especially during the week.

Water Temperature: 4 stars – Consistent and pleasant for long soaks.

Health Benefits: 4 stars – Strong sulfur presence is excellent for those with skin sensitivities or joint pain.

Nearby Amenities: 3 stars – Basic amenities within the park; Fujairah city center is a short drive away for better dining and hotel options.

4. Ain Al Thawarah

Note: This location is across the border in Oman. While it requires a border crossing and a longer drive (approx. 4 hours from Dubai), it is the "Holy Grail" for natural hot spring enthusiasts in the region.

Ain Al Thawarah is located in the town of Nakhal, at the edge of a massive palm grove near the historic Nakhal Fort. This is a truly natural spring, where the water bubbles up into a small, rocky pool before flowing down a narrow falaj (irrigation channel).

The water is remarkably clear and contains tiny fish that will give you a "natural pedicure" by nibbling on your feet—a surprising and ticklish addition to the spa experience!

The setting is spectacular: date palms, steep canyon walls, and the sound of rushing water. It is a primitive, authentic connection to the Earth's heat that you won't find in the polished resorts of the UAE.

The closest hotel is Jawharat Al Rustaq Resort, 40 minutes away where you can enjoy a fitness center, year-round outdoor swimming pool, and a lush garden.

Water Quality: 5 stars – Crystal clear and naturally filtered through the mountain limestone.

Ease of Access: 3 stars – Requires a long drive and a border crossing, which can be time-consuming. However, the road is paved the entire way.

Ability to be Alone: 2 stars – Extremely popular with Omani families and weekend travelers from the UAE.

Water Temperature: 4 stars – Warm and inviting, perfect for a long soak in the shade of the palms.

Health Benefits: 3 stars – Primarily a sensory and relaxation experience, though the mineral-rich mountain water is great for the skin.

Nearby Amenities: 2 stars – Very few amenities at the spring itself. You’ll need to drive back into Nakhal for basic food or supplies.
